Calling all Chod users!!

Gentlemen:

Is there a definitive curve for the choddy or is it all down to personal choice?

Some writings would have you believe that it should be very aggressive i.e. stored on 2" pipe lagging and others say only just a slight curve??

Thoughts please Gents.

always thought it was a slight curve as too aggresive and it doesnt sit correctly or flip around, alyn.

Think it really depends on your personal views as to how the rig works and how long you have the hooklink.

I personally use the aggresive bend, and by aggresive, I mean 2" hooklink and stored with the point of the hook through the first eye of the swivel, so totally closed circle. As, the way I see the rig working, is two fold, when the fish sucks, I imagine the hooklink being straightened out slightly by the pull, the curve of the link means the hook should enter point down and as soon as the suck stops, the link will try to revert to its full curve. Thus pulling it down into the bottom of the mouth...

With a less aggesive curve, you can control the hook a bit more, as, given the suck on the bait, the hooklink is less likely to twist, (as it sometimes does with a tight curve) and so you can be sure the hook is aiming with the point down rather than hoping. But you have a lot less recoil as the suction stops which wont pull the hook down as much.

I'm working on a "leadcore" hooklink with the lead taken out and a stiff link put in its place, with the theory that the middle section behaves like a chod, placing the hook at the right angle and creating a spring action to pull the hook down, but with a supple section at both ends, for manouverability at the swivel end and allowing the hook to "whip" around a little in the mouth...

Let you know how it goes...
